We asked our award winners questions to describe what their award means to them and what advice would they give to new educators beginning their journey.

For our second interview, we spoke with Customer Service Award Winner, Pam Cassady.

How many years of teaching?

20 years

What brought you to Salinas City Elementary School District?

After volunteering in my child’s classroom for a number of years, one of the office staff at the school encouraged me to apply for a classified position with the District since I was there nearly every day. The rest is history!

What keeps you motivated and inspired on a dialy basis?

I truly enjoy my job, and therefore it is easy to get up in the morning and come into work everyday. Each day poses a new or different challenge. There is no such word in H.R. as “boredom”.

What does your award mean to you?

The award represents an acknowledgement of the time and effort that I’ve invested in my current position, based on the knowledge and experience accumulated over the past 20 years.

What is the most gratifying thing about your job?

The most gratifying thing about my job is being able to offer support to all staff and management.

Any advice for new educators?

A friendly voice and a calm manner goes a long way in the world of customer service oriented positions.
