Salinas City Elementary School District Trustees to Attend California’s Premier Continuing Education Event for School Board Members
CSBA’s annual conference features more than 3,000 school board trustees focusing on practical solutions for the most critical issues facing public education
Salinas, Calif., (November 29, 2016) – Superintendent Martha Martinez along with Board President Stephen Kim, Board Clerk Foster Hoffman, Trustee Francisco Javier Estrada, and Trustee Amy Ish will join more than 3,000 school board trustees in tackling the most pressing issues facing public education during the California School Boards Association’s (CSBA’s) Annual Education Conference and Trade Show. Hosted at San Francisco’s Moscone West from December 1 - 3, the conference is the premier continuing education event for California school boards and the largest education leadership conference in the state.
The CSBA conference unites school district governing teams with superintendents, county office of education trustees, education advocates and some of the world’s top thinkers in exploring methods of good governance, caring for the whole child and boosting student achievement. The event includes more than 120 workshops on subjects such as college and career readiness, community engagement, campus safety, community schools, teacher retention, school funding, education policy, developing legislation, California’s new accountability measures, the importance of equity and adequacy to student achievement and a variety of other topics.
The 2016 conference also features presentations by executive, designer and technologist John Maeda; actor, director and activist, Edward James Olmos; best-selling author, scholar and cultural critic Michael Eric Dyson; professor, author, and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) instruction expert Christopher Emdin; former NASA astronauts Mae Jemison and José Hernández and current NASA astronaut and Mars mission candidate Victor Glover.
“At each annual conference, vast amounts of new information are presented. After attending the CSBA conference, I am re-energized and inspired to continue working for students, teachers, and our community.” ~ Foster Hoffman
“The CSBA annual conference provides extensive workshops on a wide variety of issues that school districts across the state face. These sessions are presented by experts in their fields. We are fortunate to have this opportunity!” ~ Amy Ish
In an era when California is changing the way it funds, supports, assesses and seeks to improve schools and when questions around equity persist, CSBA’s annual conference provides attendees with information and strategies needed to implement solutions that enhance student outcomes.
“Good governance acts as a catalyst for all the other conditions that are integral to student success. In order to govern effectively, education leaders must be well-informed and prepared to use that knowledge,” said CSBA President Chris Ungar. “Our annual conference places a wealth of information at trustees’ fingertips while allowing them to learn from globally recognized speakers and share lessons and best practices with their colleagues from around California.”
