Student Email and Google Apps for Education

During the Fall of the 2014-2015 school year, the Salinas City Elementary School district will take a proposal to the Board of Trustees to use student email accounts within our Google Apps for Education (GAFE) domain.

Student email accounts will be used within a subdomain of the districts and will be under the "" domain. Student email users cannot email outside of the district, nor can anyone in the public domain contact them. This is what is referred to as the "walled garden". Learn more about the district's use of student email here.

Why Use Google Apps for Education? Why is the school system doing this?

"Digital Citizenship” and “21st Century Skills” are concepts which help teachers, technology leaders and parents to understand what students/children/technology users should know to use technology appropriately. Digital Citizenship and 21st Century Skills are more than just a teaching tool; using these tools can be a way to prepare students/technology users for a society full of technology.
