Transitional Kindergarten Age:
If your child will be five (5) years of age on or after September 2, 2018 thru December 31, 2018 your child is eligible for Transitional Kindergarten.
Note: Registration cannot be completed until you have submitted proof of your child’s birth date. This may be a birth certificate, baptismal record, passport, or other acceptable proof of birth.
Immunization records should be brought to the school on registration day. Law SB277 requires all incoming kinder students to be immunized or have a medical exemption from their physician. If your child has not been immunized, you may consult your private physician or attend the immunization clinic at the Alisal Health Center, 559 E. Alisal St., Ste, 202, Salinas. Their phone number is 831-769-8870. Please call for office hours.
ORAL HEALTH ASSESSMENT
California law, Education Code Section 49452.8, now requires that your child have an oral health assessment by May 31 in kindergarten or first grade, whichever is his or her first year of public school. The law specifies that the assessment must be performed by a licensed dentist or other licensed or registered dental health professional. Oral health assessments that have happened within the 12 months before your child enters school also meet this requirement. If you cannot take your child for this assessment, you may be excused from this requirement by filling out the required form.
State law requires that each child, when entering school, present a Health Screening Certificate documenting that a physical exam has been obtained or a signed waiver statement indicating that health services are declined. A physical exam after March 1, 2018, fulfills the law.
Verification of your child’s home address must be provided at the time of registration. One utility bill (e.g., PG&E, water, garbage, sewer will be necessary to verify residency.
DETERMINE HOUSEHOLD LANGUAGE
The California Education Code requires that schools determine the language(s) spoken at home by each student. This information is essential for schools to provide meaningful instruction. You will be asked to complete a home language survey form when registering your child.
The order of registration will be recorded and may be used as a basis for determining class and/or school assignment.
