In supporting SCESD’s instructional platform, our classrooms, the Maintenance Department is currently working daily on managing work orders submitted by all sites as well as managing these significant projects:

1.     Video Security: we are continuing to add cameras and upgrade the network backbone (hardware and software) in our constant focus on providing a safe environment for our students, their families, our extended school communities and our dedicated district employees;

2.     ADA Barrier Removal: we are continuing to evaluate barriers and designing and constructing barrier removal projects to improve accessibility to our schools and their programs;

3.     Fall Zone Protection: we are in the midst of the planning required to refresh our safety-compliant certified wood fiber chips in the equipment playboxes on the playgrounds of all of our school campuses.

4.     Summer Capital Projects: we are deeply involved in developing the plans necessary for permitting and bidding for the following:

a.     Improvements to the student drop-off area for our Special Needs students at University Park School;

b.     Remodeling the front admin and entry area at Lincoln School to bring this area into compliance with the district’s standard for “casual visual contact” of all visitors to the campus during school hours;

c.      Replacement of windows at Roosevelt School to improve energy efficiency and the classroom environment;

d.     Expansion of food service facilities at Sherwood School and Natividad School;

e.     Security enhancements for employees and visitors at the District Office;

e.     Preliminary energy efficiency program planning to fulfill requirements for the district to access funds for construction energy saving projects
