For our last interview in Series 3 of our 3-part series, we spoke with Movers, Makers & Bakers Award Winner, Sue Mcleskey.

Food Service Operations Secretary, Food Services Department

How many years of classified?

27 years

What brought you to Salinas City Elementary School District?

My children attended University Park. I started out as a noon supervisor.

What keeps you motivated and inspired on a daily basis?

I like working with the National School Lunch Program along with all my coworkers in the Food Service Department to help get the students fed so they are better able to learn. I am inspired by the excellent teamwork in our department, from cooks, FSAs, meal clerks, drivers and office staff and all it takes to produce and serve healthy meals to the students.

What does your award mean to you?

I am honored and it makes me feel appreciated to be recognized for the Movers, Makers & Bakers Award!

What is the most gratifying thing about your job?

I like assisting families, who may be struggling to make ends meet, with the lunch application, and pointing them to other programs where they might get help.

Any advice for new educators?

SCESD is a great place to work!
