January 11, 2023 - Letter to the Community
January 11, 2022
Dear SCESD Community,
We recognize that despite the stormy weather, evacuation warnings, orders, and multiple alerts, each of you are showing up for your students and school communities as we returned back to school this week. On behalf of our Board of Trustees and myself, we wholeheartedly appreciate you!
This evening we received information that the: “Salinas River will be in “monitor phase” at or around 2 p.m. and will be at flood state at or around 3 p.m. on Thursday, January 12. State and local officials are preparing for continued flood stage through January 15 at 9:00 p.m.” Adding that the “roads that are expected to be affected include State Route 68, River Road, Reservation Road, Blanco Road, multiple secondary roads, and potentially CA 1.” (Monterey County Communications, January 11, 2022).
Therefore, all school staff will be released at school dismissal tomorrow, as Thursday is an early release day in our District. We request that our classroom teaching staff send students home with their digital devices and other necessary instructional materials tomorrow. All afterschool programs will also be closed for tomorrow and District staff will notify families.
The District Office will remain open and will assess and communicate the plans for Friday tomorrow.
We want all of you to be safe and to prepare, both personally and professionally, as necessary, for this warning and the predicted upcoming inability to connect to Salinas from the Monterey Peninsula and other regions that rely on highway 68 and those roads mentioned above.
Your safety is very important to us and we encourage you to communicate with your immediate supervisor, with human resources, or directly with me and my office.
Warmly,Rebeca Andrade, Ed.D.,
