Information about School Board Meetings
The Board of Trustees establishes its meeting schedule for the coming year annually in June. Meetings are normally held on the third Tuesday of each month, with closed session occurring at 5:00pm and the public portion of the meeting starting at 6:30pm; the schedule is subject to change if the third Thursday of a month occurs during an official school holiday or on a national holiday. In addition to welcoming the public to our boardroom at 840 S. Main St. in Salinas, our meetings stream live on the District's YouTube channel and can be found here.

Board Priorities

Learner-Centered, Future-Ready Students

  • Curiosity and Critical Thinking: Encourage curiosity and critical thinking through collaborative projects, coding programs, and design challenges that prepare students for the future.
  • Innovative, Creative, and Inclusive: Foster a culture of innovation by integrating project-based learning, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics), and other practices to prepare students for the future.
  • Strength-Based Culture: Meet the needs of all students, including advanced learners.
  • Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Support: Provide mental health resources, including
  • counseling and wellness programs, to support students’ holistic well-being.
  • Professional Development: Offer ongoing opportunities for staff and community to support learners and foster student-centered practices.

Ensure Fiscal Health

  • Optimal Learning Environments: Ensure that all learning spaces are safe and conducive to learning by incorporating an environment of belonging where shared expectations, norms, and routines support a positive school culture.
  • Balanced Budgeting: Establish a transparent budgeting process, including internal controls and systems that prioritize educational outcomes while maintaining a prudent reserve.
  • Long-Term Financial Projections: Create and regularly update the long-term financial forecast to anticipate future needs and challenges, considering the financial resources necessary to sustain student-centered, future ready initiatives.
  • Fiscal Health Committee: Involve the community in budgetary decisions to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Grant Acquisition and Partnerships: Actively seek grants and form partnerships with business and organizations to supplement district funding.

Strong Relationships as a Community

  • Engagement: Involve all members of the SCESD Community, including families and partners,in strong, positive relationships.
  • Family Involvement: Develop programs and initiatives that encourage family participation in learner-centered education.
  • Collaborative Decision-Making: Establish advisory councils that include students, families, staff, and community members to contribute to district processes and initiatives.
  • Inclusive Culture: Promote inclusivity through training and ensure all community members feel valued and respected.
  • Communication: Utilize all communication tools to inform and engage the community with district activities and decisions.
