SCESD students holding up their new backpacks

The Salinas City Elementary School District is providing students with reading backpacks containing three grade-level-appropriate books and a message from Superintendent Rebeca Andrade to prevent summer learning loss. These backpacks aim to build home libraries, foster a love of reading, and enhance various skills. Assistant Superintendent Ron Dillender emphasizes that reading over the summer supports continuous learning and encourages families to engage with their children's reading. Salinas City Elementary School District Launches Electric Bus Fleet

The Salinas City Elementary School District has added ten electric buses and chargers to its fleet, primarily for special needs students. These buses, charging in 4.5 hours for a 107-mile range, will replace diesel buses on several routes, saving over 100 metric tons of CO2 and 17,143 gallons of diesel annually. This initiative supports reducing pediatric asthma-related absenteeism, aligning with the District's educational goals. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on May 15 at 9:30am at the District’s Maintenance Yard.

SCESD Opening Day Events

Chronic Absenteeism Press Release

CalKIDS Release

Salinas City Elementary School District's 6th graders are visiting CSU Monterey Bay as part of the University Promise initiative, encouraging college aspirations. The initiative includes a pledge for CSU admission and access to CalKIDS savings accounts, with only a fraction of eligible students having claimed their accounts so far.
