Immigration Information

The Salinas City Elementary School District is committed to the success of all students, ensuring that every school is a safe, welcoming space for students and their families, regardless of citizenship or immigration status. The District will not solicit or collect information about the citizenship or immigration status of students or their families.  Board Policy 5145.13 and Administrative Regulation 5145.13 reflects our dedication to providing a supportive, inclusive environment where all students, as well as their parents or guardians, feel valued and respected.

Please note the following: Under State AB 699, schools are considered “Protected Areas.” All students and parents or guardians have rights under the Constitution, including the 4th Amendment, which protects from unreasonable searches and seizures, and the 5th Amendment, the right to remain silent.

Regardless of your immigration status, you have guaranteed rights under the Constitution. Learn more here about your rights as an immigrant, and how to express them. Click the box below to learn more:

Step-by-Step Family Preparedness Plan

The Salinas City Elementary School District wants all to feel secure and prepared in case of ICE activity impacts any of our families or students. While every family should have a Family Preparedness Plan in case of an emergency, it is critical for immigrant families to think ahead and set more concrete plans for immigration emergencies that can arise. For example, the Resource Toolkit below goes into detail about different childcare options available in case of an absent parent, where to find trusted immigration services in your community, and how to prepare to assert your constitutional rights in the presence of an immigration officer.

This toolkit from the Immigration Legal Resource Center is divided into different sections that give guidance on family preparedness planning, regardless of immigration status. It gives additional advice to undocumented and/or mixed status families.

The Spanish-language version of this toolkit can be found here.
