Student and Family Handbook
The information contained in the Student & Parent Information Handbook lays out your rights and responsibilities as the parents or guardians of a student in the Salinas City Elementary School District. Your child will be given a paper copy of this handbook, and there is a page that requires your signature in several places. Once you have reviewed the information, please tear out the form, sign in the appropriate places and return that page to your school. On pages 7-8 (English) and 14-15 (Spanish) in the "Required Student Forms" flipbook above, please find opt-out forms created in response to the U.S. Supreme Court decision in the case of Mahmoud v. Taylor, which provides families a process to request a religious exemption from specific instructional materials or lessons. It is important to note that the form is not a universal opt-out, but intended only for individual circumstances based on sincerely held religious beliefs.
Families who are granted their opt-out request will have their child provided with an alternative educational activity, in the library or another classroom, consistent with District policy and practice
